Has anyone ever told you that you are enough, just as you are? I hope so, but I would imagine you have more often received messages of being not-enough. We live in a society that is very difficult to please and that teaches us that we don’t measure up. But we do! We are enough already without having to try to meet all of society’s unrealistic expectations. Here are just a few of the areas that we are judged on. I’m sure you could add more to my list.
Your body is either too fat or too skinny, too buff or too puny, too curvy or too flat.
Your skin is either too dark or too light, with too many wrinkles or too much acne.
Your hair is too thin, too curly, too gray, too long, too short, or too straight.
You are either too macho or too effeminate, too butch or too girly.
You are too smart and nerdy or you are stupid and gullible.
You are too quiet and shy or too loud and obnoxious.
You are either too messy or you are a clean freak.
You are too rich and bougie or too poor and redneck.
You are too conceited and cocky or too insecure and meek.
You are too liberal and woke, or too conservative and right-wing.
You are too religious and holier-than-thou or too worldly and faithless.
You are a driven workaholic or lazy and lacking motivation to work for a living.
You are either a pervert or a prude, promiscuous or virginal, lame or a wild child.
Eventually you go from being too young and inexperienced to too old and irrelevant.
Enough already!! You are enough already. Be your beautiful and unique self.
Welcome to the first post of the Awakened2Love blog! My name is Crysta and I look forward to sharing thoughts, quotes and stories of how we can love ourselves and love ALL people for who we are. The past several years have been a time of “unprecedented” loss, grief, violence, and political divisiveness. But out of this darkness has shone a million lights of love, hope and truth as people are fighting for love and justice in this hurting world. As the great poet Amanda Gorman said in 2021, “For there is always light,
if only we’re brave enough to see it
If only we’re brave enough to be it” (The Hill We Climb, Amanda Gorman).
